HIV Risk Associated with Different Types of Sexual Activity

Sexual contact is the most common route of HIV transmission. By December 2001, 51% of all HIV infections among adolescents and adults reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were sexually transmitted (35% by male homosexual contact, 11% by heterosexual contact in females, 5% by heterosexual contact in males). Worldwide, heterosexual transmission is the most common route of HIV infection. Given the importance of sexual transmission in the HIV epidemic, many HIV prevention strategies have focused on identifying and promoting safer-sex practices. .. Read more

HPV & Women

HPV stands for human papilloma virus. HPV is a sexually transmitted virus. It can be passed through genital contact such as anal and vaginal sex. Another way it can be passed on is from skin to skin contact. At some point in the life of sexually active men and women at least 50 percent will acquire HPV. Black Leaders Draft National Action Plan to End AIDS
