HIV/AIDS and Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM)

The term men who have sex with men (MSM) refers to all men who have sex with other men, regardless of how they identify themselves (gay, bisexual, or heterosexual). In the United States, HIV and AIDS have had a tremendous impact on MSM. AIDS has been diagnosed for more than half a million MSM. Almost 300,000 MSM with AIDS have died during the past 20 years. MSM made up about two thirds of all men living with HIV in 2004, even though only about 5% to 7% of men in the United States reported having sex with other men. In a 2005 study, 46% of African American MSM were HIV-positive. .. Read more

Could a Video Game Stop the Spread of HIV/AIDS?

On January 25, 2007, the Kaiser Family Foundation and mtvU joined forces to launch a competition, called the “Change the Course of HIV Challenge”. The message is clear. . . GET EDUCATED, GET TESTED, GET INVOLVED, GET TREATED!!!!! While African Americans represent approximately 13 percent of the U.S. population, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the group accounts for almost half (49%) of the nation’s AIDS cases. According to the National Center for Health Statistics 2006 Report, HIV/AIDS is one of the top 10 leading causes of death for African Americans; and in the same year African Americans accounted for more than half (54 percent) of estimated new HIV infections in the United States. ..
